Working Together
USE YOUR UNIQUE GIFTING TO HELP CARE FOR OUR COMMUNITY
While you can come as part of a team, there are several ways to volunteer as an individual as well. OMA Foundation hosts volunteers throughout the year who generally stay for 1 to 2 weeks. we truly believe everyone has something to offer. Churches, organizations, schools and groups are welcome to come and make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable youth. Individual volunteer your time and talent by getting involved in one of several areas of our ministry on the ground in Uganda.
FIghting Poverty
Over one billion people worldwide still live on less than a dollar a day (extreme poverty). These people don’t choose what clothes to buy or where to live. They choose which child will get an education if any. They don’t decide if they will take their children to the doctor, ring an ambulance or just drive to the Accident and Emergency. Their choice is not to eat so they can pay the hospital fees. Extreme poverty is the difference between buying your food in a shop and searching through rubbish tips to survive on. Extreme poverty is the difference between a mother by the roadside doing prostitution to feed her children and keep with the hard-cold street, who nervously close their eyes, not knowing if they will wake up.
Brenda was uneducated, abandoned and full of anxiety. Then she received counselling, discipleship and tailoring skills training through OMA Foundation and discovered faith in Jesus. Today, she’s overcome her fear. She’s more than a mother in her own house and a father figure to her children, more than a tailor running her own business. She’s an empowered mother for her daughter.
AFRICA’S GREATEST RESOURCE IS HER WOMEN, EMPOWERED
The harsh reality is that many women in Africa have been left to bear the brunt of war, poverty and disease. Millions of our sisters have been abandoned and robbed of all dignity. Uneducated and unemployable, they are left to suffer alone with their children. But together, we’re changing this by providing discipleship, business skills training and job opportunities as we embrace these young mothers with God’s love so that they find hope and purpose in life.
