What Is OUr Aim?

The total recovery and restoration of the people of northern Uganda from a war that lasted over two decades from 1986 is a story that will not conclude soon.

Northern Uganda comprises over 16 districts. For over two decades, has faced a long period of insecurity filled with total oppression, displacement, abduction of both children and adults; women and men who were brainwashed into becoming soldiers and slaves—mutilating victims in a campaign of intimidation that displaced over 2 million people. By 1996, the government began setting up secure camps. Children living in villages in Northern Uganda became known as “night commuters,” walking miles every evening to the relative safety of the camps or towns in hopes of avoiding abduction.

These camps and the secure town locations became safe havens for people. Being alive the next day became uncertain. Children grew up in the deplorable conditions of these camps. There was a high dependency on government support and foreign aid to survive. The uncertainty of tomorrow became more evident. Hopelessness was the drive for the day.

A lot of local and international efforts were made to fight their oppression, and in 2006, They indicated the need for peace talk negotiations. Northern Uganda began to feel safe again. A few developments started to take place. People began the journey of trying to rebuild their lost years.
Despite the current peaceful condition in Northern Uganda, the people are facing the after-effects of the war. Hopelessness, unemployment, fear, uncertainty, depression, to mention but a few, have led to the slow progress of the individuals.

Our beneficiaries are the young, vulnerable women and men who have experienced some bit of the war. In contrast, others were born after the war but are experiencing the after-effects of this war. Between 18 and 30, this category of beneficiaries has either dropped out of or did not attend school.  The question for us as an organisation is, “Can we rebuild their lives, change their mindset and bring back this lost hope that was both inbuilt and felt? Can we create a positive generational impact?” We believe; YES, we can. As an organisation, we focus on rebuilding their mindset, growing them spiritually, and supporting them to rewrite their future and become the pillar for healing in their families present and future.

OMA Foundation is a Christian-centred Community-based organisation located in Gulu District that provides avenues of learning/skill enhancement. We create opportunities for self-growth among this specific group of youth in Gulu district.

We not only equip them with knowledge in vocational skills like tailoring, weaving, crocheting, soap making, candle making, carpentry, metal fabrications, and bakery/cookery. We also disciple, mentor, provide counselling, promote good agricultural practices, train them on financial literacy, numeracy/literacy, entrepreneurship training, and follow-up supervision. The humbling thing is that this support and training is given to them free of charge.
At OMA Foundation, we envision a dependable youth-filled community where the youth are equipped not only to change their own lives but also to change the lives of people in the households and communities to which they belong.

FAITH – Bringing everyone we encounter and those we work with, to the full knowledge of Jesus Christ and God’s love for us. We do this through our outreach and discipleship programs.

EMPOWERING WOMEN – Providing our beneficiaries with the opportunity and means of improving their situation. Through our opportunity creation program, we offer training in vocational and life skills, financial literacy, numeracy, literacy and school outreach programs. We focus on mentoring, promoting talent, discipleship, and career guidance, and encouraging them to keep in school.

LIVELIHOOD – Enabling our beneficiaries to secure their necessities of life. This is done by promoting good agricultural practices, business mentorship and start-up.

RELIANCE – Understanding individual responsibility and commitment to fulfilling those responsibilities. This will improve our relationships with one another in our households and communities.

Enrolment is done on a yearly basis.

Here are the stories of some of our beneficiaries waiting to be sponsored. Sign up today and you will make a lasting impact not only in their lives but also in the lives of their children, family and their community.

Outreach

Teams of volunteers from different churches, schools, and friends have come together to complete outreach projects over the years, we’ve had an incredible time with them, and it was a huge impact on the community, we came together, bringing expertise, supplies, and helping us reach beyond our walls into the community. The work on each of these projects makes a lasting difference and the friendships formed on these teams are invaluable. It’s beautiful to have a deep connection while working on a project you’re passionate about with other people who share that leads to bonds that last a lifetime. It’s much more than a particular project; it’s connecting with God’s family throughout the world and we truly believe everyone has something to offer.
